A Tour for enthusiasts of History and Nature! Historical sites and country museums offer insight into Icelandic life of the past. Travel around Snæfellsnes with its glacier and interesting fishing villages, to the capital town of the north Akureyri and Lake Mývatn, rich in bird life and flora. Visit the Pingvellir National Park, site of the old Viking Parliament, Hraunfoss Waterfall and the Glaumbaer Folk Museum. Cross mountain passes en route to Akureyri, the capital of Northern Iceland. Across the uninhabited highlands between ice caps and hot springs. Visit Skaftafell National Park, nestling below Iceland's highest mountain and the mighty Vatnajökull Icecap, largest glacier plateau in Europe. Enjoy an introduction  to the Icelandic Horse, and walks in the ever-changing countryside. Rich bird life and flora, lush green meadows, lava fields, hot pools and glaciers await you! Iceland - a Contrast in Nature, abundant in ancient Sagas and History!

A short drive brings us to Þingvellir National Park, site of the old Viking Parliament. Then on to Borgarfjörður where we visit the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar, where water comes running from under the lava and into the river Hvítá, and onwards to Deildartunguhver, one of the most voluminous hot springs in Europe. Accommodation for the next two nights is in Borgarfjörður area.

We drive around the Snæfellsnes glacier and visit the former fishing centre of Dritvík, the turf house museum at Hellisandur and shark processing farm at Bjarnarhöfn while enjoying the magnificent mountain and coastal scenery.

Journey along Laxárdalur, the setting of one of Iceland’s famous Sagas where we visit the replica farmhouse of Erik the Red. Through the trading town of Blönduós to Skagafjörður where we will be introduced to the Icelandic horse. We travel over the Öxnadalur mountain pass to Akureyri, the capital town of Northern Iceland. We stay for the next two nights in the Eyjafjörður area.

A day excursion to Lake Mývatn, considered one of the most fertile areas in the world so close to the Arctic Circle. A stop will be made en route at one of Iceland’s most majestic waterfalls Goðafoss, where Þorgeir threw his pagan idols into the falls when accepting Christianity during the year 1000 AD. Close to Mývatn we visit the recent lava flows from the Krafla volcano, the hot springs at Námaskarð and the magnificent lava landscape of Dimmuborgir.

We start the day with a visit to the farm museum at Glaumbær. Then across the highlands on the route Kjölur between the glaciers of Langjökull and Hofsjökull to the hot springs at Hveravellir. We stop by the waterfall Gullfoss, and Iceland’s most famous hot spring, Geysir. We then continue to our overnight place in the south where we stay for 2 nights.

We travel along the south coast where Iceland’s largest glacier Vatnajökull dominates the landscape and visit the National Park nestling below Iceland’s highest mountain, the 2119 meter Hvannadalshnjúkur. We also visit two more of Iceland’s magnificent waterfalls on the full day excursion.

Our first stop is at Skálholt church, rich in history and legends. Then on to the coastal towns of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki, former the main harbour and trading centre in South Iceland. In Eyrarbakki we visit old museum buildings. Our last stop before returning to the capital is at the greenhouse town of Hveragerði.
