New Years in Reykjavik Iceland

Celebrate the New Year in Iceland. During this festive season when the days are shorter, Icelanders really know how to brighten up their days during the New Years celebration, heralded by fireworks, bonfires and dancing that goes on 'til dawn. New Years Eve is one of the most magical nights in Iceland when thousands of people attend community bonfires and exchange visits. Bonfires on New Year's Eve have been lit in Iceland since the late 18th century. The custom of "blowing out the year" has been observed by detonating fireworks. It is usually a night of great merriment.  Enjoy a unique display of fireworks as nearly every family has their own show which fills up the sky with light and color. Not only will you be able to enjoy this spectacular show but also get a chance to relax in a high class spa and indulge yourself in Icelandic cuisine. Iceland is renowned for its gastronomy and this getaway gives you a chance to savor great food in one of Reykjavik’s highly praised restaurants.
