Featuring Expedition Guides, Lecturers and Zodiac Landings

Experience Spitsbergen’s wild and beautiful north-westerly coast onboard the former coastal steamer M/S Nordstjernen. Take in the mighty summits and calving glaciers on our 6-day cruise on board the MS Nordstjernen. Cruise under the Midnight Sun exploring Spitsbergen's Arctic landscapes and abundant wildlife: massive glaciers covering 60% of the land, fjords lined with steep cliffs, rugged mountains, and polar bears, wild reindeer, Arctic foxes, walruses, whales, seals and many species of migratory birds. Our Spitsbergen programs feature naturalist guides, Zodiac landings,  accommodations in select cabin category, all shore excursions, taxes and port charges.

Towards the very top of the Northern Hemisphere lies the Svalbard Archipelago. It is the most accessible high Arctic area in the world, yet its vast expanses of pristine nature appear almost completely untouched by humans. Large parts of Svalbard are national parks and nature preserves outside the few human settlements. There are no roads connecting the settlements, making Svalbard one of the few remaining areas of unspoiled wilderness. Surprisingly rich in fauna and flora, that has adapted to the demanding arctic conditions, many places are green and lush, with beautiful flowers in many colors. Fascinating geology, ancient rock formations, rich deposits of coal, fossilized plants, several hundred million years old, are still commonly found. Svalbard provides a wealth of wildlife, and our expedition cruises will reward you with views of colonies of nesting sea birds, mammals, reindeer, arctic fox, and the king of Svalbard, the polar bear, with an estimated number of 2,500 bears in the Svalbard area.

Both weekly departures follow almost the same tour itinerary although there are some differences with regard to the order of the activities and the timetable. As is the case with all tours in the arctic, the tour is subject to change due to weather and ice conditions.

How demanding is the tour:
This tour is suitable for most people. Our shore excursions are not long and exhausting, although the terrain is uneven and very stony. You will be assisted to board the vessel and make landings from the zodiacs, but you need to be fairly steady on your feet.
